Back in 1991 this documentary was almost heroic for us at Inspiration Conspiracy. It’s black and white and shot in this mansion in L.A. Only 60 minutes long, it’s packed with a sort of madness about the creative process. It’s the Chili Peppers recording Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic with the bearded guru Rick Rubin. Especially interesting to watch John Fruciante laying in bed with his jar of liquid and floatees- this was a few months before he quit the band to pursue a heroin addiction with some of the Jane’s Addiction guys. It’s inspiring to watch these young guys at the height of their creative powers. Also of great music documentary note: Dig! and Some Kind of Monster.
